Simulation of radiation effects on materials in deep space can be very difficult to replicate on Earth. Dr. Gabriela Petculescu and her researchers have been studying these effects on various 3-D printed alloys of interest including Ti64. With access to the Louisiana Accelerator Center (LAC) at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, the Physics Department and the C-ICME Lab will collaborate in conducting experiments that use high energy focused ion beams to irradiate alloys under very high vacuum conditions similar to that in space.
